2019 Senior Washington trip
September 9-12, 2019
Mountain Education Charter High School sent 16 students to Washington D.C. the week of September 11th. This is an annual all-expenses-paid trip for MECHS as an educational experience for students to gain a better understanding of the nation’s history and governmental structure and operations. One student from each location is chosen by Administrators to represent their Site. Students and chaperones traveled via Southwest Airlines and were able to visit the United States Capitol, take a segway tour, visit national monuments such as Lincoln Memorial, and spend time inside the Smithsonian museums. Three students were selected after an essay submission to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetary. Requirements for students to be selected as a participant include; eligible as a senior, in good academic standing, no discipline concerns, never been to Washington D.C. beforehand, and a good representative of the school. MECHS would like to thank the Dahlonega Ministerial Association, Cleveland Kiwanis Club, and the Dahlonega American Legion who made this trip possible through benevolent donations.
